General Motors’ Shanghai GM Dong Yue Motors has completed the third phase expansion of its vehicle manufacturing facility in Yantai, Shandong,China.
GM has invested CNY2.53bn ($398m) for the expansion which has doubled the carmaker's capacity to 480,000 vehicles and will facilitate Shanghai GM to meet the rise in passenger vehicle demand.
The company has produced about 1.5 million vehicles since the launch of its operations in 2003.
Shanghai GM Dong Yue Motors is established as a joint venture between GM China and SAIC with each company having a stake of 25% while Shanghai GM holds a stake of 50% in the venture as well as oversees management.
It is one of Shanghai GM's three current production bases, along with its original Jinqiao plant in Shanghai's Pudong New Area and Shanghai GM (Shenyang) Norsom Motors in Shenyang.
GM has 11 JV and two wholly owned companies employing more than 35,000 in China.
GM and its joint ventures produces passenger cars and commercial vehicles under the Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jiefang, Opel and Wuling.
